Systane ilux® Treatment for Dry Eyes
REAL DRY EYE RELIEF CAN BE YOURS!
Dry eye disease, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is a chronic and progressive disease affecting more than 100 million people worldwide. Common symptoms of dry eye include dryness, soreness, eye fatigue, grittiness, watering, and sensitivity to light.

Over 80% of chronic dry eye disease is caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Meibomian glands are in your eyelids and secrete meibum, or oils, that create a protective film over your tears. Patients with MGD do not properly produce enough meibum, breaking down the protective tear film and allowing for tears to evaporate.

As the affected glands become increasingly inflamed, the normally oily secretions become thick like butter, restricting gland secretion. In many patients, glands affected by MGD can atrophy, leading to gland death. It is important to identify and treat this disease early.

Every time you blink, a protective layer of moisture called the tear film coats the front surface of your eye. An essential part of the tear film is an oily layer called meibum. MGD occurs when the meibomian glands that produce meibum get blocked or the secreted meibum is of poor quality and the aqueous part of the tears evaporate, as there is no oily layer to protect them.
iLux® is the only handheld FDA approved treatment for MGD uniquely designed to customize treatments for each patient. Patients describe the treatment as a “warm eye massage”. The iLux targeted treatment lasts only about 8 minutes, and typically eases patient’s symptoms for up to 6-8 months.

iLUX® is an in-office treatment which allows us to unblock the glands by applying heat and then pressure to your upper and lower eyelids. we will assess your eyelids to determine the treatment zones. After that, your eyelid is held between the soft, biocompatible pads of the iLux device. The therapeutic, light-based heat will begin to warm the blocked glands to a safe temperature and help to soften and release the oil. During the treatment we may apply additional heat or pressure dependent on your needs. Through compression, the oil is expressed from the glands and the treatment is complete.

• Each eyelid is treated with the iLUX® device, with up to two treatments per lid
• The light-based heat warms your eyelid and softens the meibum blocking the glands
• Compression is applied to express the melted meibum from the gland orifices

If we suspect an ocular condition or disease,
we will immediately schedule or perform
diagnostic tests to determined our next steps.

In addition to caring for your vision and eye health, we make every effort to explain your condition to you and encourage you to ask questions. We value our relationship with you and look forward to helping you maintain good vision and healthy eyes.

We all want to to protect our eyesight and that is why it is important to have annual vision tests. This allows us to detect changes in the front of your eye so that alterations can be made to your eyeglass or contact lens prescription. We also need to inspect the retina to check if it is healthy, damaged, or showing signs of disease.
